TAIAO
Environment
Mahi
We participate in cultural (taonga tuku iho) and environmental (taiao) management through our Tiaki Trust. This includes:
- Management of the environment – engagement with the Crown on plan changes, resource consents, concessions, wildlife permits, and through our own mātauranga and tikanga initiatives such as the Waitākere rāhui
Management of heritage places – engagement with the Crown on heritage authorities, and through our own initiatives such as GIS mapping of our cultural landscapes
Mahi Toi – urban design, cultural placemaking and public art
Waitākere Ranges Heritage Area – as the recognised tangata whenua under the Waitākere Ranges Heritage Area Act (2008) we co-manage the area with the Crown.
- Te Tiriti auditing – we are in the proccess of developing tools to monitor and report on the performance of the Crown in complying with the Treaty and our Treaty Settlement
Iwi Management Plan
Our Te Kawerau ā Maki Iwi Management Plan provides a roadmap for how we intend to manage our rohe, and how we expect the Crown to support this.
Our original 1995 IMP will be replaced soon with a second generation version that is under development.
